To those who are totally ignorant of Russia, meaning all of the American political elites and most of the foreign policy expert community, Russia is easy to comprehend, an easy target for labels like “autocracy” and “imperialist.” But then these folks don’t care much about the peculiarities of friends and allies abroad, so long as they are totally subservient to Washington.
