I practice Economy Of Force Reading. Summarized in Doctorow's first paragraph is the House Speakership conclusion.

"Johnson,'s links with Trump"

and that Johnson voted against certifying Biden for president...

and that Johnson is not for funding ukraine war..."

My kind of guy. That's all I really to know now. I'm a great admirer of Jim Jordan but he's still there, thankfully, and serving well.

But I really mean it about economical reading. After Jordan I was on information overload, couldn't remember the names, didn't know them. It became a tiring blur.

Thank You Gilbert for not only telling us things nobody else tells us, but also for saving us from listening to the endless noise of the other channels

The first sentence of your third paragraph is true. The two sentences that follow state what are reasonable assumptions. However, after meeting with Joe, Mike says he’s not going to “abandon Ukraine”, thus no cut-off appears to be what can be expected. As you alluded, the likely impact of the new speaker.

As for the former Le Monde editor, and her thesis (as you’ve described it), it seems to be full of cope. I don’t bother with Le Monde these days, nor most mainstream western news forces. I use the word on purpose. It’s info management and part of modern warfare after all. And, mostly because I know what to expect. I’m just a cook, so it’s not part of what I must be good at doing. I can be excused for my ignorance, if that’s what it is. I understand that your situation is different. You must keep abreast. I rely on you and select others to pass on the news.

For my reading time budget, even as it’s a bigger budget than ever (retirement time has to be filled up), I’ve found Le Monde Diplomatique to be much more interesting, usually well written, and the concise commentaries provided by its former editor Serge Halimi (still a contributor) to be on point; a feature that’s now been taken over by Benoit Breville with equal style and brevity.

I rate your reports as highly. They are frequently not loquacious, but just as often, time spent well. Thank you.
