News X World Bulletin: The fast track will be von der Leyen out on the street
We take our pleasure where we can. The headline above is my words, not the title assigned by News X World, which you see in the first page of the video above.
They wanted first of all my thoughts on Medvedev’s latest statement that Russia objects to EU membership for Ukraine because the EU is turning into a military union which would be directed against Moscow.
In my answer to their question I misspoke, alluding to the 2014 document which the EU tried to impose on the Yanukovich government in Kiev. That was a comprehensive cooperation agreement, though in essence it was a preparatory document for eventual EU membership. As I say here, that agreement had secret provisions requiring Ukraine to adopt at once the EU foreign and military policy, meaning that it join the anti-Russian European positions.
As I finally say in this interview, the Russians have probably delayed stating their opposition to Ukraine’s joining the EU because it was/is politically better sense to first let European member states express their planned veto on Ukrainian accession before Russia says anything. And at present, both Poland and Hungary are among the countries who have come out and explicitly rejected EU membership for Ukraine. My remarks on von der Leyen’s ‘fast track’ comes at the end of the interview
